Due to the past absence of general nutritional standards, for the first time in history, a large portion of an entire generation of parents will find themselves burying their own children (â€Å"Overweight in Children†). With the rise of saturated fats and indecipherable additives came the gradual tick of years dropping off of the average life expectancy. In recent years, the importance of nutrition and health, along with the means of attaining this healthy lifestyle has become more prevalent in society. Throughout its time in the spotlight, diet quality has improved for those residing in the upper region of the socioeconomic hierarchy; however, it has â€Å"deteriorated among those at the lower end of the spectrum† (Hamblin). A study sponsored the United States Congress revealed that expanding aperture in the average life expectancy (currently 12 years) between men at opposing ends of the economic ambit (Damon). Data and statistics reveal substantial discrepancies in t he nutritional value of households across the spectrum of socioeconomic status and educational level (Handbury). This nutritional schism is especially noticeable when looking at American youth.
